An engraving of Maderno's design, with a lengthened nave and a portico at the front.
The engraved plan shows the nave lengthened and a front portico added, the form the basilica finally took. Placed beside the Bramante and Michelangelo plans, it shows how the layout shifted from a Greek cross toward a Latin cross.
