Rome museums maps

Floor plans and street maps for the main museums of Rome, from the Vatican collections to contemporary art sites.

Rome's museums occupy very different kinds of buildings. The Capitoline Museums stand on the Capitoline Hill around Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio, in the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo, while the Galleria Borghese is housed in the Villa Borghese Pinciana, inside the gardens of Villa Borghese. Palazzo Massimo alle Terme is the principal of the four sites of the Museo Nazionale Romano, with the Baths of Diocletian, Palazzo Altemps and the Crypta Balbi.

The page mixes two kinds of document. Floor plans, such as those of the Vatican levels, Palazzo Massimo and the MAXXI galleries, let you follow the rooms in order. Street maps with pins show where other museums stand, among them the Etruscan museum at Villa Giulia, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini and the modern art gallery at Valle Giulia.

Contemporary art is covered as well. MAXXI is drawn level by level, and MACRO appears with its two Roman venues, one in Via Nizza and one in the former slaughterhouse at Testaccio. A central map with museum icons shows the relative position of the best-known collections, which helps in judging which of them can be visited on the same day without long transfers.
